Hospital volume is associated with postoperative mortality following radical cystectomy for treatment of bladder cancer

Abstract Objective To contribute to the debate about the minimum hospital volume of radical cystectomies (RCs) by estimating the association between hospital volume (HV) and postoperative mortality. Patients and methods Patients who underwent a RC for bladder cancer between January 1st, 2008 and December 31st, 2018 were retrospectively identified from the Netherlands Cancer Registry. To […]

Pubectomy and Urinary Reconstruction Provides Definitive Treatment of Urosymphyseal Fistula Following Prostate Cancer Treatment

Abstract Objective To describe the natural history, reconstructive solutions, and functional outcomes of those men undergoing pubectomy and urinary reconstruction after prostate cancer treatment. Methods This study retrospectively identified twenty‐five patients with a diagnosis of urosymphyseal fistula (UF) following prostate cancer therapy who were treated with urinary reconstruction with pubectomy. This study describes the natural […]

Transperineal freehand multiparametric MRI fusion targeted biopsies under local anaesthesia for prostate cancer diagnosis: a multicentre prospective study of 1014 cases

Objective To improve endoscopic recognition of the most frequently encountered urinary stone morphologies for a better aetiological approach in lithiasis by urologists. Materials and Methods An expert urologist intraoperatively and prospectively (between June 2015 and June 2018) examined the surface, the section, and the nucleus of all encountered kidney stones. Fragmented stones were subsequently analysed […]

Development of a patient decision aid for the surgical management of lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia

Early outcomes of single‐port robot‐assisted radical prostatectomy: lessons learned from the learning‐curve experience

Objective To present the long‐term adjuvant radiotherapy outcomes of patients with pN3 squamous cell carcinoma of the penis (SCCp) treated at two UK centres. Patients and Methods We conducted a retrospective audit of all pN3 SCCp patients, deemed suitable for adjuvant therapy by a specialist multidisciplinary team at St George’s and Leeds Hospitals, who received […]

Personalised biopsy schedules based on risk of Gleason upgrading for patients with low‐risk prostate cancer on active surveillance

Objectives To prospectively evaluate the performance of a pre‐specified statistical model based on four kallikrein markers in blood (total prostate‐specific antigen [PSA], free PSA, intact PSA, and human kallikrein‐related peptidase 2), commercially available as the 4Kscore, in predicting Gleason Grade Group (GG) ≥2 prostate cancer at biopsy in an international multicentre study at three academic […]

Predictors of Need for Catheterization and Urinary Retention after Radical Cystectomy and Orthotopic Neobladder in Male Patients

Abstract Objectives To investigate the prevalence of catheterization and urinary retention in male bladder cancer patients after radical cystectomy and orthotopic neobladder and to identify potential predictors. Methods Using an IRB approved, prospectively maintained bladder cancer database, we collected information using a diversion‐related questionnaire from 299 consecutive male bladder cancer patients upon postoperative clinic visit. […]

Temporal Learning Curve of a Multidisciplinary Team for MRI‐TRUS Fusion Prostate Biopsy

Abstract Both transperineal and transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)‐guided systematic biopsy are accepted methods to diagnose prostate cancer (PCa). However, systematic sampling misses up to 47% of tumors 0.5 mL or larger and under‐represents the tumor grade in 38% of cases [1,2]. These shortcomings result in underestimated risk and repeat prostate biopsies.

Reduction of stent‐associated morbidity by minimizing stent material: a prospective, randomized, single‐blind superiority trial assessing a customized ‘suture stent’

Objectives To compare a customized ‘suture stent’ with a standard ureteric stent regarding stent‐related symptoms, safety and efficacy. Materials and Methods Patients with urolithiasis located proximal to the iliac vessel crossing, requiring stenting in preparation for secondary ureterorenoscopy (URS) were randomized to standard ureteric stenting or a suture stent. Secondary ureterorenoscopy was performed 2–6 weeks later. […]
